. I can only imagine what it would be like to enter a "bike pound", and walk past all these lonely, neglected bicycles, some of them making puppy-dog eyes at me

. The article didn't mention Japan's innovative approach to bicycle parking. I can't find the article on this, but somewhere in Japan there is an underground bicycle storage vault. The cyclist simply rolls the bike into a street-level box, and the bicycle is drawn down into the vault via an automated lift.
