Arrgh! Yet another forum post that shows such intolerance of the police. How many people that work would tolerate missing out on their lunch or their tea break every working day and have to just put up with it? If the coppers were seen coming out with a carrier bag of booze then yes people have a right to complain but I dont see any wrong in stopping as close to a shop to grab a sandwich in case of an emergency call.

There has been many a time I have jumped into my car late at night to go take my fella and his partner some food as they have not been able to take their 'refs' as they are manning a crime scene.

Some red routes are only enforceable at certain times of the day, is this one of them?

Lets give the guys who we turn to when we are victims of crime a bit of slack eh?

Why?

Or does " A bit of slack include" taking a bung for info to the NoW, or downloading kiddie porn, or drunk driving?

A great deal of us. Relevance?

No.

We give the police power over us, and so we should hold them to a higher standard than the rest of us. Same with politicians.

These two parked their car in a bus and bike lane at rush hour, almost certainly causing massive problems for buses, who would have then had to turn into the other lane thus creating problems with other vehicles , and making things just that bit less safe for cyclists.

And they did it knowing they would get away with it, with contempt for the rest of us.

I'm not saying they should be hung out to dry for it, but at the very least they should receive the same fine the rest of us would have received.

Give them a bit of slack? I'm sure we already are. They'll get away with it, they always do.

The ones around here go off duty for "refs". I told two in a car about cycles that were in the process of being stolenfrom a KFC about 30' away from them (they could see them out of the car window) and their reply was "we're just about to go on food break".

I made it clear that wasn't an acceptable response from public servants and they drove off.

The frustrating thing is, I'd got out of my car to grab the thieves (despite being phoneless and with my then three year old) but delayed when I saw the police car pulling into the KFC.

Mind you, the same useless articles wouldn't even question suspects caught with two of my bikes minutes after they'd been reported stolen because they didn't feel they had sufficient evidence. They literally waved them off on their way with my bikes.

When and where did this happen Che? Absolutely disgraceful behaviour

For the record the drivers of the car in the OP would face a ticket and possible disciplinary action in my division. We MUST set a good example. By appearing to be above the law, or even contemptuous of it, we leave ourselves wide open to deserved criticism.

Tough, the cops should:

1. obey the same rules as everyone else and
2. definately obey the rules as an example to others showing how everyone else *should* behave

The KFC incident was Hull Kingswood possibly three years ago but more likely more, the burglary was last year. I did complain but despite going out of my way to be polite, the person I contacted was so ignorant and abusive, I felt complaining would have been a full time job.

In short, thieves were reported by my neighbour in the early hours of Sunday. A van arrived and caught the thieves 200m from the scene in posesion of bikes and garage tools. They were waved on their way by the Policeman (a sergeant).
I didn't find this out until the following Thursday when a neighbour that witnessed it told me. I contacted the Police who said that reports of crime go into a different system to suspicious incidents spotted by the Police (even if one initiated the other) and the two aren't linked. They also said there's no point going to interview the people they stopped as they'd only deny it. So nothing more has ever been done by them. That's a summary, the incompetence was actually greater than the bits I mention.

Not long after, they asked if I'd be interested in joining a neighbourhood watch scheme. I said I'm more than happy to get involved if it is going to be run effectively. I told them about the above and asked if they'd improved. They giggled like little kids and I've heard nothing since.
