He got his phone back and some nobber learned a lesson.

iOS 7 for iPhones and iPads now come with Activation Lock. When a thief steals it, you can track it and/or wipe it just as now, but even if the thief does a factory reset they won't be able to use it again without the original owner's Apple ID login.

The trouble is complaining on a cycling forum will get you nowhere, a nice polite letter to a local paper, or a senior officer in the force may.

It will just get filed with all the other letters of complaint. complete waste of time.

You can remotely lock,wipe,take a photo or/and send a message with iphone/iPad and even track it's whereabouts to within a very short distance, but stil they're not interested.
So in most cases it renders the software pretty bloody useless!

Only until thieves realise it's pointless to steal an iDevice because they cannot be re-used and thus cannot be sold. Once word gets around, iDevice thefts will decrease dramatically.

I wondered where this was going at first. Brilliant. He should be employed by the police. This sort of crime fighting is only going to get bigger and bigger the more technology progresses. Great link. Ta :-)

The brits by nature are moaners not complainers in my opinion, now I could well be wrong. But unless we do more complaining nothing will change.

What's needed is an exploding phone app. As soon as your phone is nicked you enable it by calling it from a special number. Next call the tea leaf makes your stolen phone self-destructs. It's the 'blowing-up-your-phone-to-spite-your-thief' app.

I can kinda see where the police are coming from, it's a petty crime which happens an awful lot... And how do you prove your phone was stolen anyway? Seems like a lot of paperwork for a crime that won't end up in court. Wipe the phone remotely and phone your insurance company for a new one.

There aren't enough of them walking about anymore. If there was, I'm sure a lot of this petty crime(so to speak) would be nipped in the bud.
There are far more important crimes in the big scheme of things, but you are correct; they should be there for everyone. Money and cuts!

When I lived in Milton Keynes, a city of around 230,000, there were 7 officers on duty at any time of day.
