Corona virus threatens 2020 Italian races

I was thinking that the Olympics could be under threat because of the Corona virus. Then it struck me that there is a more immediate risk, to sporting events in Italy...

The last 2 stages of the UAE tour are cancelled and the teams confined to the hotel pending testing.

So 07/03/20 is Strade Bianche, 11 to 17/03/20 Tirreno Adriatico, 21/03/20 Milan San Remo, can’t see these happening with the way things are going in Italy at the moment.
So if the weather improves, which should help with stopping Coronavirus, will the Giro go ahead.

The first two are far enough South to be outside the category 2 area so far. Whether enough teams fancy risking it is a different question.

My thoughts are though that it only takes one person, who doesn’t realize they have the virus, to then spread it further, so as a precaution will they be cancelled as the authorities won’t know who is safe or not, as at the UAE the soigneurs became ill when the race was nearly over.

I think this coming week will see the virus spread further south in Italy as prior to the lockdown people will have travelled all over, without being aware of having it, or being in contact with a carrier

yep and North, we have 9 cases now and all are traced back to being in Northern Italy in the last 10 days.

No sporting events in Lombardi's, Veneto etc. Strade Bianchi unaffected at present

Law prevents sporting events until review March 8 but with way CV is developing in Italy looks v unlikely Tirreno Adriatico and Milan San Remo will happen
