Yes and that's very sad, but he's quite probably about to find out that he's been lied to about some pretty major aspects of life and death, which might upset him even more.
I'm touched by your compassion.
I just don't think it's OK to tell kids lies about this sort of thing.

Having read the article, my first thought wasn't to start having a moan about religion, and I say that as an atheist. I'll leave it there as this is café.

Well, I don't see the relevance here on a number of levels, not least the fact that the balloon was found in a field in Dunfermline. Not known for it's abundance of marine creatures, I would guess.
