I haven't laughed so much in ages. The whole story is a wheeze, fake rubbish of the sort that gets the Facebook tribe alternately purple with rage or teary eyed with sorrow.

It is funny and always rather sad how many 'world experts' we always seem to have on this forum.... How do you know if is fake?

Because it says 'Mom?'

WOW, GUILTY AS CHARGED!! It may say that due to a whole gamut of reasons (I did notice it myself when I read it though), Do we know how old the boy is?? No? Do we know what he had been reading before? No? Do we know ANYTHING of his past?? No??.....

Because it has love hearts from a boy??

Big deal, did you loose a parent when you were a kid? Maybe he genuinely drew them as a show of love..... I remember doing that sort of thing when I was a kid and I never lost a parent, so, so what? It is all personal.... Maybe someone at the home encouraged him to draw them or similar, you never know.....

....See if I was faking something like that,
looking to scam people for presents, I would at least give some sort of indication as to who I was and more importantly, WHERE I was....

It may or may not be a prank, BUT, we ALL stand to be proven wrong.

I'm not on Facebook, but Mrs Drago is. It's been doing the rounds there and was discredited ages ago. It's passing into urban legend like the equally apocryphal 'American aircraft carrier v. Lighthouse' radio exchange. I thought the OP was having a laugh at the wheeze, but some folk have been taking it seriously.

Typical modern fake news story, spread by Gullibles Travels.

I stand by what I say, my son would never have drawn love hearts, even though he would happily play with his sisters toys, and no we didn't frown on it, in all the time I was running our local Beaver Scout colony the girls would draw love hearts, the boys, never, it didn't matter what the activity was, boys didn't draw them, also see what Drago wrote.

So why would at least 3 newspapers, including a national be running the story? If it had been discredited and is apparently so well known, then why would they then discredit themselves? Hmmmm?

So no boy in the history of the universe (except for me) has ever done it? Hmmmmmm...... How many of your charge would have lost a parent or parents?

Oh and can I point out that I have been on Facebook for years and have never seen it before. There are well known ones that do the rounds, so if this is so well known then..... Why have I never seen it before?

In short, what this really is for me is not really whether it is real or not (it is in no way outwith the realms of possibility, I mean, come on!!), but because that whenever anyone says something is 'fake' or a hoax, it gets my twathackles up.

I used to know someone who just dismissed everything as being the work of photoshop.... Anything unusual, photophop, anything in the news.... Photoshop.... Nothing ever actually happened according to this person, and it wasn't as if it was satisfying when they were innevitably proven wrong, because they would just pick up on some tiny little thing and make out they were still right, even when they were wrong. I wanted to punch that guy SOOO badly sometimes.

It now extends to people who confidently tell us that

'Oh of course, nobody would ever do that'

Regardless of the person's situation, as if the person telling us is some sort of great expert.

Now, Drago, you have given me the whole thing about how you haven't seen it, but you know others who have, blah blah, so, yes, I could look it up myself, but come on then, provide the links!!

It doesn't matter if it's a true story or not. If it's true, some people might feel sympathy, but it isn't going to help the poor child. If it isn't true, some people can feel sympathy, but it isn't going to do any good either.

Feeling sad doesn't do any good, and it certainly doesn't make you any more virtuous than the next Joe.

As a father, I found it touching BTW.

Does it matter either way?

Like I said above, I just hate naysayers and self appointed experts who get ma twathackles up.

You are right in that yes, it helps nobody, especially as we don't know who did it.... If they did (and if they did..... But didn't.... ooohhh Twilight Zone there!).

In truth, a kid drawing and writing a note and tying it to a helium balloon is not in any way impossible, so it is sad that such a simple act has been hijacked by the peanuts on this.

Give us your sources Drago.... Since you aren't even on Facebook, you saying that you have been told it is a fake is about as reliable as the old

'I know someone down the pub who once told me....'.

Wheeze.

You might be quite surprised at the number of children who didn't have what might be considered the normal lives at home with mum & dad, we have had them with single parents, some through parents separating, some through bereavement, some from families without two pennies to their names, some with parents who couldn't care less where their offspring were, as I wrote I can only comment on what I have seen, with my own eyes, not by proclaiming to be an "expert" all I said was certain things about it just rings alarm bells that it is a fake, and I don't think it's actually worth arguing over.

I don't think it's actually worth arguing over.

I know that, and no hard feelings or anything, but call it Internet fatigue or whatever, but I just get ground down/pi**ed off by so many people who are all so terribly sure that everything is a fake, etc etc, when in reality they don't know more than the rest of us, that's all )I also asked Drago to provide the evidence that it had been previously debunked.... I'm still waiting).
Nothing ever hapoens, or everything is just one big conspiracy, I mean, give us a break!!

See my story of 'Mr Photoshop' and you'll understand why.

..... 'Tis the internet, everyone is wrong except for me!!'

No national newspaper, no sirree, has ever been taken in by a hoax story...

Blah blah blah.

Like I say, I am just sick and tired of the whole negativity surrounding everything these days.

Nothing ever happens, everything is either one big fake or it is some sort of conspiracy..... Gawd, I hate modern life.... I hate you all!!

Even if it was genuine, and I found it myself and proved it, people would still be saying it was a fake, blah blah blah. 'Oh yeah, I saw that on Facebook last year'.

Yep. They ran with the very obviously (if you stopped and thought about it) iffy story about the Florida millionaire who had married his own grand-daughter by mistake, only a couple of months ago.

I never read the papers, I can never be bothered, so cannot comment on such a story

Anyway, see my edited reply above, and the real reason I am just a bit.... Well, depressed by it all....
