However the last time I flew, I passed through security and then bought a bottle of spirits, a handkerchief and a lighter . Combine those items in the right order and you have a IED.
and if you smash the bottle you instantly have lots of sharp bits.

No need, just use the steak knife I was given with my meal in the restaurant (I am sure that I am now on a no fly list by posting this).

Yes, perhaps we had better stop.

It's clearly obvious that the world is full of bad folk with more imagination, and application, than us.

Ride and fly safe folks.

PS - I am by the way flying to and from an airport where thankfully they have upgraded their security. I swear that the folks watching the X ray scanners were spending most of the time looking anywhere but at the screen. I well remember once being rather seriously worried. First signs they had sharpened up were when I had to open my bag to reveal a bike saddle.

Would folks expect this to be a problem?

Yes, because I had first hand experience similar to this........

my mate had allen keys confiscated.

On a day trip from Glasgow to Birmingham for the NEC motorcycle show, flying with FlyBe.. Hand luggage only, and had bought a set of allen keys at the show. Security refused to allow them, so having plenty of time I went to the check in desk and FlyBe kindly checked them in for me, free of charge. I then went back through the security point to the airside pub/restaurant (may have been a Wetherspoons) where I had something to eat and was given a metal knife and fork.
As far as I know, no-one checked to make sure I had returned the cutlery before I boarded the flight.
