I see more RLJing by motor vehicles than by cyclists on my commute, by an order of magnitude.

Same down here. Everywhere is different though. I understand Cambridge has some Police stats to show that cyclists RLJ more there.

Mile End Road says that cars will go through late but for cold blood straight through like it ain't there, bikes every single time

I hope there was no damage to the Colnago
so do I!!!!!!!!!!

I followed a cyclist through Vauxhall and over the bridge one day. He jumped every red light, and hit a pedestrian after mounting the kerb. For which he got a slap round the back of his trustafarian head. From an elderly chap on a Brompton.

it's a shame that people do it, he could have easily been hit by a car or a lorry on that junction, he was just very lucky that he wasn't!

people don't think about the issues until they are a statistic.

If they're on a bike then cyclist is entirely right. Let's not be elitist and snobby.

I don't like the term POB-they might have been riding stupidly and unwisely but I prefer not to alienate with terms like that.
All right then, how about this line?

I'd never dream of using "POB" to describe someone just because of their appearance, or because they're riding a cheap supermarket bike, or wearing unsuitable clothing, or doggedly staying on the "infrastructure" however poorly-designed, or because they're excessively slow or have poor riding technique. Of course such a person is still a "cyclist"! And good luck to them: we need more cyclists like this just as much as we need experienced old-timers.

No: I think the term "POB", however snobbish it sounds, should be applied only to those who do cyclists a disservice by their deliberate flouting of the law and other anti-social or dangerous behaviour, who attract unwelcome hostility towards cyclists as a whole, from the press and other members of the public. I think I'm justified in wanting to distance myself from such persons.

The idiot whose behaviour at Vauxhall Bridge Road we have been discussing, is a prime example of this.

Fair enough?

That was just some bad cycling. We don't even know for sure that he is a bad cyclist per se, but just that he did some poor riding at that moment. No reflection on him as a person, he still has all that to lose too.

661 Pete - the problem is when POB gets applied sloppily.

I still feel the guy demonstrated piss poor cycling and that's what I think - cyclist, but one lacking skill and with poor judgement at that point
