Creaking when pedalling

Noticed my bike develop a creaking noise when pedalling, sounds like it’s coming from rear, any advice please?

Stand up and pedal... does the sound go away? If so, you may have similar problems to me. I had it on a bike recently, two causes...

1. The saddle clamp bolt was a bit rusty so I hadn't managed to tighten it enough. I lubed it and then got it tighter.
2. The saddle itself had a loose rail where it went into the back of the saddle. I swapped the saddle for one from my turbo trainer.

Those changes fixed the problem for me.

Based on your detailed description, my advice would be to fix it so it stops creaking.

Its probably the above or the Bottom bracket or even the pedals.
You have to check each component. If you dont know what you are doing then take it into a reputable bike shop.

Chain ring bolts are worth checking

Clean and re grease seatpost and clamp. Same with cleat bolts. Then test.

This ^^^ first thing to do, I’ve had a creak cured by this, sounded like the BB

No point in fixing the seat and seat post if it creaks when you are standing up????

although I have seen creaks that happen when pressure is released

so try riding under power but standing for severl revolution of the pedals - if it still creaks then it ain;t the seat

I recently put a new seat on the bike and creaking started after so will check this, thanks.

My bike developed a creak...turned out it was only a loose reflector on the spokes.

Quick release axle mechanism was one I found. It's a case of working the obvious and not so obvious until it's resolved.

The simple answer is that creaks on a bike can come from the most unexpected place as the sound seems to get transmitted along the frame. Thus my advice is to try and eliminate possible sources of the creaks one by one.
