Since there was virtually no wind, I managed to do a focus stack on these seed heads. The compression uploading to here has destroyed the detail

Deeply uncreative, and the colours are nothing like it actually was at 5.30am this morning (I couldn't sleep), but it's still not bad for handheld on a £200 camera (the Sony HX-60). It's not as approximate around the edges as it sometimes is.

Did you use a tripod? I still haven't tried the focus stacking on the OM.

Yeah I used a tripod, but I was using old gear and manually focusing. I took 5 shots, but only needed 4 of them. My shutter speed was only a 1/15 sec so I needed a tripod anyway.
I think it is possible to do focus stacking handheld on a modern setup especially when the shutter speed is fast, but one rogue shot could spoil the stack. With a true 1:1 macro or more I imagine a tripod would make things a lot easier.

I will have to have a go with the OM at some stage when I'm bored and not feeling really lazy.

I’d have preferred to find some mushrooms growing out of some decaying wood, rather than dealing with the pesky ground dwelling ones.
I ordered one of those RGB LED lights which hasn’t arrived yet. Hope it works better than my smartphone torch which left a rather unflattering look to the shots I used it on.

Mushroom focus stack, a leaf 'skeleton' and possibly my last bee shot of the summer. I think I'll leave it at that for a while.

Weekend away and a trip to Dolgoch falls. Tricky conditions for photographing them with so much contrast and having no tripod or filters. The old debate from BR days was whether waterfalls look better as a fast shutter speed to capture the image of what you see or the ethereal look of a longer exposure. First is taken at 1/320 second, F7.1 and ISO 4000 and the second is 1/3 second, F25 and ISO 640.
