There’s a distinct autumnal chill in the air this evening. Yikes, another summer disappearing fast.

No chill here yet (25C at 9.20pm, and front door wide open), but as the sun catches a lonesome pine on the blue ridge mountain of Romeyer a few minutes later each morning at this time of year, the season of mellow fruitfulness and return to work (and other excitements this particular year) comes on apace.

Which is all a smokescreen for the fact that I've got nothing creative on my camera at the moment. Tatsville, France.

Anybody here a member/participent of a "local photographic society"/camera club?

I keep thinking about trying my local club but look at their meeting program and can't work up enthusiasm.

Maybe just I like taking photos of things that interest me and can't get enthusiastic about other "tasks".

Not really for me. I have a loose approach and just try to capture whatever catches my eye. While I’m sure there are some good photography clubs out there, I can’t see myself joining one anytime soon.

I suppose that depends on your point of view, and the ethos of the club.

You could argue that if you want to improve your photography then the opportunity to get constructive criticism of your work from other members could be invaluable.

I tried it once. Even more geeky and cliquey than cycle clubs or car clubs, which is saying something.
Not for me. Although that may say more about me. Alternate view, best to beat your own path and have your own style than go all formulaic.

That's me too.

I think it's a bit like my learning better French - just get stuck in and do lots of it, and if there's something specific I need/want to do, look it up if I can't work it out myself.

I suppose I started this thread vaguely with the notion that it wasn't just pretty pictures, but people could try stuff out and constructively criticise/be open to advice.

Minutes later a squall rolled in and cleared the beach in seconds, me included.

It took me a few goes to get the perspective/scale worked out... my brain didn't at first realise that the orange men were standing on top of the trailer/surfboard combo, and thought that that was toy size and they were near the water's edge. You probably won't be able to see it as my (idiot) brain first saw it.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I didn’t notice that, possibly because I witnessed them up there when I took the pic. I think they were being extra vigilant because of the dwarf surf school in the sea.
