Silly selfie, but the unintentional Russian doll effect amused me.

I thought I’d managed a selfie in a fly’s spit bubble. On closer inspection it was a reflection of its eyes.

That's got a cool retro vibe. I like the anglepoise shadow too.

In other news I photographed my first OS benchmark today. A brass one no less.

Just a Sony HX-60 compact - £200 secondhand. Good lens & image chip, 30x zoom and excellent image stabilisation. Editing using the very old & lightweight Irfanview. I'm a very lazy photographer and just use a few auto settings... a case of working out what the camera is good at and making the most of that.

I've just brought a Panasonic fz 38 for £25!
Let's see what its like 12mp and 18x zoom!

I felt it was a law of diminishing returns and I don't have a great deal of money so I'm good to go.

I don't know if the 18x Vs 24x zoom of the newer ones is a major benefit?

Well, for £25, 18x zoom ain't bad, as long as the image stabilisation is decent, and you'll have a lot of fun. As with my relatively cheap camera, the pleasure is in exploiting what it can do, not in wondering what a more expensive camera might do.

A bird-watching friend of mine has the newest Olympus OM1, which will do burst mode on a setting that specifically will focus on the eye of a bird, so you can imagine some of the spectacular stuff he gets, not least as he knows where to go and has lots of patience. But he's spent several £1000s on it and lenses.
