It's a good job Lyth and Brook turned up as no other of our batsman did.
Starting the CC this early was always a bit ask and in the Kookaburra ball which after a few overs it may as well be made of paper.
Is not going championship cricket any favours.

Had to judge really as it was a strange innings, yes Bean and Masood were out cheaply on day 2, but are judgein anyone on one innings? Resuming on day 4 it was then just a 20 odd over thrash to get a bonus point -192 runs were scored @8.3 an over - which Lyth & Brooks batted the vast majority of, and leave enough time to pick up the bowling over rate.

It is your right , it's early and it was a right old mixed bag of a game. But last season showed we are still not resultant on the batting front. It's either all or nothing. Lucky the weather held out to get the over rate back up. Any team at this level has no excuses for not bowling the right number of overs. Masood should have been all over it , our bowling looked to be still a bit hit and miss. Leicestershire got let off the hook in the 1st inns. I'm still not sure who when they come on can make somthing happen. Not in the same way as we've had not too long ago. It's early days let's hope someone can being this to life and press home an advantage and not throw away games. Like we have done.
Masood for one is not the man for the job. All of this is very much down to the weather play along which all too often last season messed it all up. At least we still have a club which was not looking the case in the last few months. Not forgetting the biggest post season win of not letting Ashley and his money anyway near it.

Absolutely agree on this, they were 177-7 early on day 2, and then 215-8 before they ran riot. Hard to blame all of that on the soft older kookaburra ball. Had we shot them out for 220 then we could have put a lot of pressure on them, although would still have probably run out of time, who knows? It happened a few times last season too IIRC, not finishing a side off having got them under pressure.

Fisher should be the one you sling the ball to to make make something happen, although Hill's medium pace seems to pretty effective in that regard.

I have no grounds to make a judgement of Masood as a skipper, but never really a fan of your overseas pro being skipper, particularly as their availability nowadays is usually limited. Lehmann was a different matter, honorary yorkshireman and he'd played a number of season before being elevated to skipper.

Tricky morning for batting, but at least all games underway this week.

Root has gone cheaply in Bristol, and no he wasn't attempting a reverse ramp shot.... 😭

This is my dad aged 60 celebrating winning the indoor championship with a table top handstand at Lords the home of cricket.
He can still do it at 71 and is vice captain of England over 70s outdoor cricket team.

Let hope there is enough dry between the showers in Bristol for Yorks to take the 6 wkts they need to win, positive batting yesterday moved the game on well, although maybe a tad conservative on the declaration.

Same at Chelmsford where we need to take six wickets as well.
We have had some heavy rain already today and the forecast doesn't look great.

Hopefully we can knock them over with the score needed we've the freedom to mix it up about and go all out attack. Though we've seen in past we can't finish off sides when it matters. If we can't knock over a side like Gloucestershire then it's time to go home.
The only thing we can't control is the weather only time will tell on that one.

One that got away I feel, nothing happened today until 2 wickets with the 2nd new ball, but the 7th wicket pair seem to have got settled in

What are you talking about?

you were surmising "you" needed to take 6 wickets, Essex had 6 2nd inning wickets left (however they declared as I predicted)

Then either Essex needed to take 10 wickets or Kent score 374 to win (my 400 comment was assuming Essex battled on to allow Kent to take those 6 wickets)

Essex have Kent 7 down as I type but running out of time.
