Don’t get the thinking of bringing Bashir into the attack at this stage when there’s plenty happening for the quicks.

'Bout em?

Been ruined by the influence of basketball for years.Which is why I didn't include them. They'd be third though.

That aside, Fire in Babylon is one of the greatest sports documentaries ever made.

Yeah, never thought back in the 80s I’d be wanting them back at the best. Always so entertaining to watch with bat and ball though, their decline is sad.

Sooo. NZ effectively 204-3 with 2 days. No rain forecast.

Not looking great. What's going on in the world of cricket politics? Changes at the top after two series defeats?

I think there will be changes. It’s a shame as when Baz arrived we were a total shambles with no confidence but some skilful players. He got them believing and the chaos of no risk cricket led to records tumbling and a long string of wins. Unfortunately that confidence has become arrogance for some and been lost by others. Bethell and Smith were selected too soon but could come good. Bashir hasn’t played enough cricket and shouldn’t be anywhere near the team at the moment. Ahmed could have come in as the allrounder at the Oval but was overlooked and got a big hundred. Archer is the one really good bowler but doesn’t seem totally comfortable with test cricket, I like Atkinson and Robinson in English conditions.

Bit of drama in the Stokes' retirement this afternoon. The news goes round the ground, there's a spontaneous round of applause for him and he takes a wicket with the next ball. He hasn't fully explained his decision yet but I doubt that it's all part of the aftermath of his suspension. Illness?

... and now he's opened the batting. With a 6 on the 11th ball!
(Earliest ever 6 hit for ENG)

Madness!

It's more theatre than test cricket. He's definitely batting in the white ball style, and making Duckett look restrained.

The guy is box office, a classic great in the sense of Root, Cook and Anderson, but has won more games due to shear will power than anyone I can remember since Botham.

I was wondering whether McCullum may get the bullet if/when the series is lost but I wasn't expecting that.
