Fair play to Stokes, I thought he should have taken himself off about 15 minutes ago when he replaced Carse. He was getting a bit wayward and costly for a while.

Last year in the Aussie vs India test at Perth, the first 2 innings had really low scores. There is no way that 19 wickets should fall on the opening day of a test match if the pitch is up to scratch. It's a new pitch, but is a complete contrast to the WACA by all accounts.

It didn't look much like the pitch was playing a part in the wickets I saw, just some very good bowling. There were a few from bouners but they came from the sort of length you'd expect and I can't say I noticed huge amounts of movement.

Perth is a hard and bouncy track. Definitely not a 350+ pitch. Anything around 250 is decent. As you say though, it was brilliant bowling that made full use of the pitch, first from Starc and then the whole England attack. The Aussies had some soft dismissals but I think that was a result of them being roughed up by a very quick and hostile bowling effort.

Hatch is in form we’ve just had an “it’s already set to be one of the greatest test series of all times”. We’ve only had 5 sessions
