I think McCullum did something extraordinary when he took over, he removed the fear of failure. England were transformed and won matches they would never have done in the past. It was a period of rewriting the record books. Unfortunately, he went too far and also removed responsibility which has come back to bite them in the ashes. As with most things, a balance is needed. The off field issues should not happen and the leadership team are all responsible for the lack of professionalism. Injuries to the 5 frontline bowlers didn’t help but how much are these down to preparation?
Root is our best ever batsman. Stokes is up there with Botham. Brook is the most naturally talented player since KP but is currently being allowed to blow it. Let’s see if Bethell lives up to the hype. The bowlers are a problem. We don’t have a world class spinner, the seamers are ok but nobody is up with Anderson and Broad yet.
