The best cinema in the world used to be the Aaben Cinema in Hulme in Manchester. You could pop into one of the local pubs, select some prime weed, and then spark up in the car park before going in and watching the latest pretentious French or Italian underground film or a Karel Reisz reprint.
The Hyde Park in Leeds used to show classics in cheap midnight screenings. IIRC, that's how I saw "Apocalypse Now" on the big screen.

Also, going back to an earlier post, "Western" is a pretty broad genre that takes in everything from musical comedies to slow, contemplative pieces like "Meek's Cutoff" (for example). Dismissing the whole lot always seems a bit arbitrary to me.

There are several very good reasons why I seldom go to the cinema.

The smell of popcorn. I HATE POPCORN.
Noisy wrappers for sweets, crisps etc. Why???
People who forget, can't be bothered to switch off, or even want to use their mobile phones.
People talking during the film.
People who arrive late and disturb everyone else.

:cursing::cursing:

That's why I don't go to Multiplexes, but I've never had these problems at all of the small cinemas I've loved, like The Tyneside in Newcastle.

John Wayne always seems to play "John Wayne", not different characters.

Graham.

If you get the chance, watch Ford's The Long Voyage Home. Wayne, whilst not exactly cast against type (his on screen persona was still "developing" at this stage in his career) puts in a performance that is interesting and the Swedish accent is almost passable...Oh, and there's some great cinematography too.

Thanks. I'll look out for it.

It's taken 14 pages to mention Uwe Boll and his crimes against cinema.

I've sat through more of his films than I care to remember and would struggle to name the worst.

House of the Dead is notable for being the only film I've ever walked out of.

Just looked him up on IMDB as I'd never heard of him.

I find myself strangely drawn to Zombie Massacre 2, as maybe two negatives make a positive?
