We were thinking of trying either Croatia or one of it's neighboring (former Yugoslavian) countries for next years holiday.
However....having read horror stories about holidays in other countries where immigrants were mass-landing we are having a re-think.
From my (very) limited knowledge Croatia seems to be a long but quite narrow strip and the immigrants "seem" to be landing at the far southern end.
It may be that all the "better" parts are to the north and completely unaffected BUT.....is it worth the risk ?

Don't worry. By holiday time next year the immigrants will all be living in a street near to you, and calling them "immigrants" will be offensive/racist and punishable by a lengthy jail term.
My bro and SiL were in Croatia recently and didn't report any problems, in fact they loved it.

TBH it's getting like that. I have never seen/heard so many foreign persons in Warrington.
Re' Croatia........I am wondering if this problem escalates could it ruin the holiday.

Why not go for the certainty of freedom from folk fleeing death and persecution by picking somewhere where the people smugglers can't disgorge their cargoes of misery. I think that Iceland and Greenland fits the bill.

I'm sure that the refugees will thank you for your sympathetic gesture.

Any thoughts? Not my first choice for a tolerent society, may be not an issue if you're white and not Muslim though. It doesn't appeal to me.

If you hate immigrants, though, you might be in good company there.

Well, write it down boy ......
I've been to Croatia in 2010 and stayed inland in the northern part. It's a lovely place, good cycling country and you feel well off the beaten track, not touristy at all. Food is basic with dishes centred on meat and dumplings, but it's very tasty. Often I had no idea what I'd ordered but I actually like that. Hardly anyone spoke English but all were very friendly.
I've also been more recently in a boat and stayed on the coast obv, and here was more set up for tourists but still not like most of western Europe.
I'd recommend it.

Not quite sure what you are saying or suggesting here so dont want to fully respond. You have no idea of my views/charitable gifts etc. so I can't believe you are "having a go" at me.

I've got nothing against hypocritical bigots. I wouldn't let my kids marry one though. :okay:

Last time I was out around Dubrovnik way the beaches were full of naked people. Nice grub, nice people and a very nice place.

Last time I was out around Dubrovnik people were shooting at me...

You should try not to upset so many people^_^

We went out before the troubles, I think we were there in about 1983 ish. It was not nice too it shot up on TV, I cannot even imagine what it was like to be there at the time. All respect to you.

I was there in the 90's, the currency was either the exchangeable mark or the Kuna. Don't leave the road if you see a pivo bottle on a stick, you're next to a minefield, or in it if you are really unlucky.
I'd imagine it's changed a great deal since then though! My friends went on honeymoon there last year and loved it.

I watched the tour of Croatia earlier this year and even commented to swmbo that it looked a really beautiful country, however I had heard from some people that went on a 4x4 offloading holiday that you don't ever stray off the road as the countryside is landmined and no one knows where they were all planted.

They don't know exactly where the individual mines are planted but they do know the location of the minefields and they are clearly marked. The majority of the country is mine free and demining activities aim to have the country cleared of mines by 2019.
