Croix de fer no stamped serial number

Picked up a new Croix De Fer yesterday and when I was taking the usual photo record I noticed that Genesis has not stamped the serial number on the frame. There is a very small sticker on the bottom of the downtube.
Now I can understand not stamping a carbon frame, but this is steel so cannot see any practical reason why not.

I'm considering getting a DataTag kit as backup marking, has anyone had any experience with them.

I think that's how my equilibrium is labelled, police has had no issues finding when I recently had the bike marked

Maybe it's a 2017 thing, my Day One Decade has the serial number stamped into the frame on the BB.
