They don't ride well.
Specially in hilly Bradford.

Precisely. I rented one for a few days in cph. Balloon tyres, singlespeed, coaster rear brake. Perfect for cruising on the flat whilst taking in the sights in a "see and be seen" kind of a way.Depending on your expectations!
So difficult to ride you have to stop to 'phone a friend?Almost identical to this three speed.

cph does have a more extreme cruiser sub-culture though. Often saw this guy in Vesterbro

I suspect she read something startling. Texting and riding is the norm there. So difficult to ride you have to stop to 'phone a friend?

I bloody loves coaster brakes, most of my bikes have them.
This is my Schwinn Centenary Black Phantom with which am in love. The last Schwinn made on American soil. Mildly hotrodded with a Profile Imperial chain ring, 2.5 inch utility tyres off of a Dutch cargo trike and a 20" ape.
The cruiser would be used for 20/40 mile canal jaunts....... with appropriate clothing
Definitely form over function, but they do look stylish.
I suspect the rider would soon become aware of the limitations of such a design, though, once beyond walking pace...
I think that bicycle was a one-off,, a prop bicycle made by Warner Brothers, and sold for $36,000.00 on eBay a few years ago. But I believe there are replicas out there.Anybody own one? If so then I'd like to see some pics.
Out of nowhere I've got an urge for a cruiser, in fact, I've a definite need for one. And I want something bright and brash rather than cool, Pee Wee Herman, not Schwinn.
