CTC/CUK rebranding

Interesting the first FB post/thread which appeared in my feed relates to the new branding.

The thread has a number of posts from people who clearly have an axe to grind with the senior management. 10 - 15 years ago I was bullied out of the then CTC (or whatever it was called) forum.

I then scrolled on. It doesn't take long to find all the usual rants about CTC not being what it was etc.

My first impression is this aspect of CTC, CUK or Cycling UK has probably not changed leading me to feel it's unlikely to be an organisation for me.

I'll give it a few weeks but I feel I see where the problem lies.

Aside from what I stumble across on here I never see or hear anything about Cycling UK. Therein lies the problem, I can't encourage others who might be the target audience, to join when the organisation is virtually anonymous to someone like me.

Cycling UK is very poor at promoting itself.

Almost the whole of BC's public awareness is down to the success of their athletes (which in turn is mostly down to sponsorhsip from Shell, some big banks, etc etc ...)
Bear that in mind!

The only reason I am a member of CUK is for the insurance purposes. Which to be fair, when I did have a claim, it was very helpful.
I do get the magazine every month but it really is a case of skim through then bin. It holds little interest to be honest.

A lot of people raise the ":'cos of the insurance" but I suspect a fair few of those actually have insurance through their house insurance policies anyway. For years now and having changed provider it's always been provided bundles in (not optional).

I'm a BC member for exactly the same reason. I was in a major RTC June 2024. The personal injury claim is still going through and while it's a slow process I've been delighted with the service.

I try to read the monthly newsletter online but it's pretty tedious stuff.

You may be right but I've always been wary of it. I use BC for the insurance. Following a major RTC I discovered the bike cover is inadequate and would only pay out the market secondhand value. That's on a bike that was snapped and cost me £5700 to replace. My home insurance covered this plus clothing, helmet, Wahoo etc.on a new for old basis.

The other aspect is the PI claim. I'm very happy to be dealing with legal people who understand cycling and cyclists. I don't feel I would get the same comfort, assuming I had the cover, from my home insurer.
