I have decided I need public liability insurance and a good way of going about getting it appears to be joining either CTC or British Cycling, but which offers the best value?

As an aside I nearly became the webmaster for CTC a few years back

CTC. It has more peripheral services.

They are also an aggresive lot when fighting your corner.

I'm with BC mainly because I got membership for about £10 during a promo. I like their route mapping tool, I think its a bit better than enomondo but I joined just to get the 3rd party insurance.

CTC mostly for the third party cover.

just to be clear - you can't get affiliated membership of the CTC unless you're a member of an affiliated club. If anybody reading this is not going to come on our rides please don't try and join the CTC through our club.

Come next year we'll be operating a electronic payment system. People will pay £2 direct in to the Fridays account, and £15 in to an account set up specifically for collecting CTC subs. I'll then transfer the CTC subs to one of their accounts and send the forms by e-mail rather than through the post
