Cup a soup thoughts 🤔

I know I used to have a pack of instant soup in my desk many years ago for emergencies (running between meetings with no time to stop) but its not something I'd consume regularly. Don't even take that rubbish camping.

It's got to be about twenty years since I last had a cup-a-soup.

Not much in the way of nutrition. It's basically flavoured salty water. Be better off buying a can or carton if you don't want to make your own. And tbh, it's not like soup is difficult to make...

nobody, not nobody considers cup-a-soup as an alternative to actual soup. We all know that it's flavoured salty water. It's a drink and as Accy says, an alternative to having a brew.

Been a long time since I last had a cup a soup.
I do enjoy a Bovril these days to replace a coffee, especially on a cold winters day 😋

Over 30 years ago, as a student, my kettle broke, so I made cup a soups with hot water from the tap.
Not my finest moment, and it was disgusting.

For dinners for a long time at work I would use hot water from the drinks machine to mix my noodles, was equally disgusting.

This was after 'Kettlegate' had happened and we had lost access to actual boiling water.

I think it was Hugh Fearnley-Whittingsall years ago who suggested making your own pot noodle e.g with frozen veg, rice noodles and stock/boulion. It's a nice idea but I always forget to do it, and you need a container large enough to put it in.

I enjoy the Miso soup option. Can use miso stock if you run out of sachets.
But like an exotic Marmite soup.
Warming, tasty drink.
Was a middle of the night option on extended, bumpy sailing trips.
Did make the mistake of buying the more expensive version with gobbettes of tofu. Won't make that mistake again.

We keep a few in the camper van, and I will quite often (in said van) have one as a late night snack, usually golden vegetable, mainly as a hot drink that doesn't have any caffeine.

My recipe for cup a soup :

Tablespoon of salt.

1/3 a cup of wood shavings.

A tablespoon of grit from the road outside.

E2846 (depleted uranium) and E958 (ground up toilet block) as flavourings.

Add hot water to taste.
