Following others recent posts, we found ourselves in a knobhead sandwich on Saturday.

Knobhead #1 (BMW...) overtook us with a dangerous close pass just at the start of the descent from Rushup Edge to Chapel le Frith.

Said descent is long, not too steep, and very fast - we were on the tandem and *averaged* 65kph for the 3km according to Strava. This was notwithstanding being held up the whole way by the BMW, who after the close pass promptly spent much of the descent unnecessarily on their brakes.

Nevertheless, knobead#2, (SUV...) was on their horn behind us during the descent, apparently wanting us out of their way(!)

What is in these people's minds is a mystery to me.

So I hope you recorded these incidents and sent in to Operation Snap.

Few years back me on bent tadpole and on single track road SUV behing and no passing places and he hooted so I stopped middle of the road, got off checked rear wheel, went back and asked him what the problem is as tooting somebody in such situations can be to alert them to an issue or problem so I assumed ... Then slowly returned to bent, re-checked rear wheel and laboriously started off again to next passing place.

Maybe he'll realise that hooting actually makes his delays a lot lot longer.

I would struggle to do that, not having a camera.

Well if you can afford to get one I recommend it. It's a bit more effective than just complaining on a forum.
I also complain on forums but I do also record my rides and submit clips of bad passes etc to the police.
Hopefully any action taken against the driver makes them change their behaviour in the future to the benefit of other road users

I thought about it but decided the hassle of keeping such a thing on and charged was too much. So it's just whinging for me!

Or the case several years ago when me on DF upright and approaching car pulled into driveway so I continued ... but he changed his mind and pulled out and drove on. So I had to stop right up against the 1 ft high verge, one bare leg in the stinging nettles as it was clear he was stopping for nothing. Except he stopped 20 ft after passing, got out, walked back to me and started screaming blue murder just inches from my face. Maybe I made him more angry by staying calm and not scared not intimidated in the slightest (as my knee would have made more than hard contact into his groin long before any swing he might have taken to me).

Made me consider getting a camera/recorder but then throught they've sort of won when you're spending several hundred £ 'cos of their stupidity. And you get such people throughout life not just out cycling. I'll be out cycling for several hours several times a week and more often you are out there more likely it is going to happen. I've ended up in a hedge when out for a walk my outside arm having been caught by a passing car wing mirror....

It's a bit of faff but pretty minimal. I have a GoPro which I attach to bike for each ride. I carry a spare battery so I've got enough to record 3 hrs. End of ride I either delete all footage if nothing happens and then put on charge. If I get a close pass etc I just take a 30 second clip or whatever is needed to capture incident and attach to Op Snap report form.
It's handy to have a decent quality camera with me anyway for any particularly nice scenery etc but the main use when on bike is to record close passes etc. It's a shame we need to do it but unless something is done nothing changes.

Whinging can serve a purpose. Reminds other cyclists to remember the car behind might not that careful considerate driver they assume s/he is. Sort of "stay alert" reminder.

Maybe also giving ideas about how to react?

Yeah but 3 points and a hefty fine has a more direct way of focusing the drivers mind.
