Yep, it's about time bikes were officially registered with the DVLA imo. Just how cool would a bike look with registration plate?
For which an Identification number is required! How do you register one that has no individual ID number?
The other half of the proposal is to ban cyclists from busy roads. Incentive enough to get a number plate, only to find you're no longer allowed on certain roads!

Fortunately, not all sense has been lost here, because this poll in Melbourne's The Age newspaper is about 2/3 against bicycle rego:
http://www.theage.com.au/comment/bi...ople-off-their-bikes-20140507-zr5zq.html#poll
and the website (also Australian) for the A Current Affair television show is also about 2/3 against bicycle rego (can't show you that one, because it's just been removed, only being shown for 1 day).

I think its a great idea and we should embrace it and expand it

1. Lets end Racist behaviour by banning all foreigners
2. Stop sex discrimination at work - ban women from the work place
3. End violence on the sports fields by banning opposition teams
4. End theft by banning ownership of anything
5. End speeding by banning all speed limits
etc

Feel sorry for you guys, we thought our Gov were obsessed with laws and regulations. What hope have you got with a transport minister like that? Looks like a regular bike rider to me!!! Thought the later balanced article was great, needs to be promoted more widely.
