Cut up by a bus

On the way home on friday i was going over the flyover on Old Kent road.

As i was coming down the other side of the flyover i was at the same level as the driver window on one of these great bendy bus things that are all over the place when he decided he wanted to come into my lane which forced me to brake hard.

I dont the wrong thing and pulled ahead of him and gave him a shake of my hand as if is was going to pleasure myself.

He then decided to pull ahead of me again and cut right across in front of me to try and force me on to the pavement.

I did not catch this on camara as i do have one but dont use it for my commute.

I know the time, place and bus number but not the reg.

Can i still right a letter to someone and who too?

That's worse than my experience this morning (see post about yellow bellied bus drivers). Wafflycat explained on that thread that you have enough information to report it to the bus company (assuming you have the details of the bus company). They will be able to identify the driver and hopefully take appropriate action.

I have come to the conclussion that most bus drivers are the scum of the earth. Not all of them but a high % of them.

Ill have to try and find out what company they are from.

At the time all i wanted to do was give the guy a slap when he pulled up at the lights but he pulled ahead of me and turned off.

Not the right thing to want to do but it did make my blood boil.

There are some bad bus drivers around, but IMO most are far better than car drivers. There's been a huge change in the attitudes and quality of driving of buses in London in the last few years.

I've taken chocolates and a letter of compliment to two local bus garages recently, and I'm about to do so for the other two on my route. It was really funny how flabbergasted they were that a cyclist was coming in to say thanks. Still, they deserve it, so many patient overtakes and careful driving.

There are two further effects - it's a self fulfilling prophecy, as now the drivers know me and often wave, and give me even more space, and if I were to put in a complaint, I think it would be taken a whole lot more seriously.

When I first came to the forum (C+), 4x4 drivers were sub human scum of the earth. Now a few here probably still think that of me, but many realise that we are not all the same and it is unfair to tar all with the same brush, and likewise I have seen some really sound and reasoned input to balance both sides of an argument.

You have bridged that gap with the bus drivers in your local depot and they realise that cyclists are human beings and treat you with some respect.

It does go to show that pure hatred and venom is not the building blocks of a good relationship!

Interesting read...there is a bus company, and on every journey to work I get overtaken by two of the buses, sometimes three, and very occasionally four.
They are without fail simply brilliant. They wait behind me until it is safe for them to pass - I know they are behind me, but they aren't on right on my back wheel, they are there but not threatening. Once it is safe for them to pass, they pass plenty wide. And they wait until the entire bus is well clear of me before coming back over.

And now, I am going to email them and tell them that, and thank them very much

While I think it's nice to send an email, if you get the time, go in person to thank them, makes a better impression I think to have a human face. Even better is to send in a box of chocolates or biscuits as well if you can stretch to that. I think BentMikey has the right idea -I'll bet the drivers who have a choccy or two remember more about being careful with cyclists....
