Well I have utterly lost the plot of what's happening now.
It's quite easy, man was upset by black van, man was more upset that we weren't upset that he was upset about the black van. then another man was even more upset that the man who wasn't upset about the black van made a spelling error, which made the man who wasn't upset about the black van upset about his spelling error, which really means the man in the black van has actually upset everybody.

That's better. Thanks!

I'm one of those apathetic people. I agree that's a good display of naff driving but if I'd been cycling behind the van the most I personally would have done is mutter under my breath.

It's good to have a mix of personalities :becool:. At the time, I kinda shouted an expletive (which you can probably hear) but the cyclist behind me seemed to go ballistic and it couldn't have affected him anywhere near as much as me. Diff'rent strokes huh.

At best, reporting it to Roadsafe will earn this guy a letter from the Police strongly suggesting there is room for improvement with his driving (and don't do it again!). At worst, nothing will happen, so it's kind of a win-win isnt it?

lol was I 'upset' that you lot weren't appropriately upset? That's a very interesting take on it... If anything, I'd say I was mildly irritated by one person's unhelpful, mocking, apathetic attitude.

I don't think I was even 'upset' by the black van driver, I'd say I was more 'bemused' that people drive round like that. It may be semantics but (as indicated earlier), I don't see a problem reporting bad driving when I see it.

Anyway, regardless of everyone's take on the footage, people do seem to get bogged down in the squabbling and ignore half the point of the thread entirely, i.e. the rules regarding cycle lanes.

It was a poor piece of driving. I'd imagine a passing traffic patrol might have pulled the driver over for careless driving, both for driving in a mandatory bike lane and the u-turn. But would I report it to Roadsafe? No. If I reported every piece of inconsiderate driving and riding to Roadsafe I wouldn't have time to get on with my life, my wife would divorce me, my kids disown me and the Met blacklist me.
Save Roadsafe for the really bad incidents that endanger you and others. And use the time you save (uploading, editing, form filling) to go for a nice enjoyable bike ride!

No, I agree, it's good to choose your battles wisely and if I reported every piece of non-indicating, I'd be filling out 30 forms a day, especially to the PCO.

I did feel this warranted a report though, maybe it doesn't come across very badly on the footage. I maybe report something once a month at best so it's not like I'm always on it.

As I say, if this guy gets a letter from the police asking him to brush up on his driving, that's great. If they ignore it then I've wasted 20-30 mins editing a video and filling out a form but I quite enjoy using iMovie anyway so it's no skin off my nose ^_^

Careful guys, this is turning out to be a sensible discussion, we all may ending up agreeing that it wasn't particularly dangerous, it was inconsiderate & that maybe even reporting it to Roadsafe (whatever that is, sounds like a darn sarf type of thing) is not such a bad idea. Are we allowed to do that? I thought the rules were we had to argue to the death on these points.

Anyway, looks like a good quality video camera you have there, and the numbnuts van driver clearly couldn't care less about other road users, especially cyclists. It's hard to do a slow handclap when cycling, in my experience.

I suppose one good thing about reporting it to roadsafe is that if the driver causes an accident as a result of their naff driving your report could potentially be used to help build up a picture of the driver; show their naff driving is more than just a one off incident so to say.

That could well be an optimistic supposition though

I know where my towel is
More bad infastructure and a nobber driver who couldn't care less about others around him, only about how important he is.
Why does the speed hump encroach on the cycle lane at the beginning...

Up until start of this month I was commuting on daily basis to Croydon from Sidcup.
On route on way home there is a set of lights. Parked Cars on right leading up to traffic lights that eventually lead into two lanes with a cycle lane just before it becomes two lanes. Drivers have or had no issues using cycle lane on a regular basis as an extra lane if I reported everyone I would have been there all day every day. Some drivers just dont care, never will care and just not interested. Better to walk away forget about it and move on there is more to life than trying to educate idiots, tossers, and cock wombles who couldnt give a toss at the end of the day.

Hi Mark

At the risk of repeating myself, I certainly don't report everything, I probably see a good half dozen offences on each 20 minute commute and I maybe report one every 2 months (that's not even a quarter of 1% of em ^_^). I tend to go for the ones that seem especially bad to me at the time.

Had this chap just been driving in the cycle lane, I'd have let it go, no problem. It's the lack of indication and the swinging round of his van with no regard to 2 vulnerable cyclists travelling right behind him that bothered me.

We all make the odd mistake on the road but I think there's a difference between those road users and the ones where the bad driving/cycling appears to be habitual. If they get a fine and some points or have to go on a driving course which makes them rethink their habits, isn't that preferable to them carrying on regardless until they hurt someone? I don't want someone I love to be that victim so if I see someone act the ar$e, I'll report it.
