Had an e-mail from Road Safe this morning to confirm that they've sent Mr Black Transit a 'letter of warning'. No idea what it says but hopefully, he'll know now that if he does something stupid again, there are people watching

But it was still a none event, inconvenient to your line of travel, yes, inconsiderate, yes, dangerous, No!

Alan...

In that instance it only inconvenienced someone but pulling a U-turn like that is unpredictable and dangerous.

Nobody indicates any more, you'd think doing a uey would warrant it, but no, I'm just going to driver 180 degrees and hope people know what I'm doing. I heard instructors are teaching pupils there's no need to indicate if there's nobody around which is total trouser gravy, what's the point of having rules if they, oh I don't know. Makes me mad.

I think you may have a point here - who on God's green Earth would ever recommend or teach this?

Oh, hang on - don't the advanced Police driver instructors advocate this? I believe it is all about not being an automoton and always being alert to your surroundings and other road users! Please don't shout at me but I will check with Robocop (AKA Wayne) tomorrow.

Another perspective might be, a driver should consider indicating if it is necessary to let others know what the driver intends to do. So, a good all round observation shows that there is no one to indicate to, and so consideration has been given and the need to indicate discounted.

However, someone who believes it necessary to indicate no matter whether there is anyone to indicate to or not, MAY be less likely to carry out that all round observation. Driving by a set of (made up ) rules is not necessarily better than driving according to the conditions and situation

Edit: typed all of this before reading Slaav's post. Slaav has hit the nail on the head.

I don't think anyone should criticise the OP for reporting this. This particular incident didn't result in any harm, but it's indicative of the driver's general disregard for other road users, so having this on file is a good idea should they do something more serious in the future.

It's the difference between knowing your sh1t and knowing you're sh1t.

I really cannot get too stressed about the WVM driving - it si far from perfect and especially someone may question the 'driving in the cyce lane'. I simply disagree. He obviously 'thought' there was nobody there and used the avilable room to facilitate a 'moody' U-turn.

He was a bit of a tw4t but no worse than I see EVERY DAY!!!! AND MANY TIMES A DAY!!!!

But one day, a wolf may actually creep in to the camp..... Let's hope that our screams on that occasion get heard eh?

Anyway - we should all look at things from both sides and hence I posted this elsewhere (apologies as this has been done to death elsewhere on this forum):
This vid is a load of bulls***
Genuine question here; why's it a load of bull? When I watched the vid I thought it was a good way of highlighting lorries blind spots. Having read your post I'm starting to wonder what I've missed.
For an artic waiting to turn left you'd never find one like that in the vid with the unit the way it is. If the truck was to complete that turn as it is then the trailer wheels would be up on the kerb/pavement.
Sorry - I know that the Video is trying ot make a point and in doing so, may well be exagerating the point somewhat.

What it does show though is that there ARE blind spots in mirrors/trucks/lorries.

And WVM is more a generic term isn't it?

No no no. They missed out looking into one of the mirrors. The mirror specifically designed to view areas like that next to the lorry.
You can see it when they pan to the right, it's at the top of the passenger side window and it looks down.

I can't actually see what you mean there Gaz but will take your word for it!

An issue is that 'normal' people and numpties watching the video won't realise that and will be as shocked as I was at first cursory glance. That can only be a good thing though? On second or third viewing, the angle of the truck etc was a lot more obvious but again, most would not realise that or evennotice it? Again, teh shock factor would be handy?

Anyway, back to the point I guess, I still don't think 'WVM' was that bad I am afraid???? And if I were to report all driving I see that is as bad as that; I would spend an awful lot of time in the Nick

At 0:14 the vehicle had almost completely left the road (including the cycle lane portion of the road). In my opinion, if he wanted to use the road again he ought to have given way to the vehicles approaching.
