Hi there,

I am after any useful information about cycling in Portugal, particularly if anyone knows of a decent route between San Sebastian and Lisbon. I'll have about 2 weeks.

Any other information, such as what the general conditions of roads are like, what sort of bike would be best for such a journey etc. would be ace!

Thanks,

James

I have done UK to Gibraltar so some bits the same. https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?o=uZ&page_id=303217&v=9W for map and feel free to read the journal

I can strongly recommend the N630 which runs North/South parallel to the Portugal border. It has been replaced by a new free motorway so is a big wide road with shoulders and no traffic- see pic below

One thing to watch for is toll motorways alongside old N roads. Huge trucks saving the toll.

Personally I have had very poor camping luck so if your budget allows go for hotels. Spain has what are called a "hostal" which is not a hostel but a pension/cheap hotel, and around €20-30 inc a/c and wifi. Portugal even cheaper from my experience

Buen viaje!
