Its BS anyway, how would a thief re-lock a stolen lock?

I took it to mean:-

a. the lock was easily pickable so could be re-used
b. the thief used a very easy to break lock

But I haven't given this a great deal of thought and wouldn't rule out the involvement of fairies or other supernatural beings.

It's frighteningly easy to pick those cylinder locks that are used on D locks, you can buy the skeleton keys on Ebay. I'd imagine the thief then re-locked the bike at a convenient location for collection later by the shippers with the Transit van, rather than keep it at his house.
