Cycle touring travel insurance

I used Sports Cover Direct for a very recent 48-day trip to Thailand, which included "cycle-touring". Paid £166 for the 'bronze' policy. Wish I'd gone for the silver or gold, as my policy only has £1000 cancellation and curtailment benefit (with £90 excess). This doesn't cover the £1,643 I had to pay for a return flight on Singapore Airlines when my return flight with Qatar Airways was cancelled, and the cost of the nine additional days I had to spend in Thailand. Lesson learnt.

I've used Sports Cover Direct on several occasions both for cycle touring in the EU (France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, though it covers wherever you select) as well as general travel. I've found them reasonable price. https://www.sportscoverdirect.com

Beware if you have any medical conditions because Sports Cover Direct exclude cover for some, rather than increase the premium and urgent care for some conditions can get expensive. They also have some weasel words about "relating to that condition" which I suspect may mean a very large exclusion if your condition is related to blood.

On the other hand, they don't seem to require helmets unless on motorbikes, so it's not all bad. I think one of the national cycling clubs offered travel insurance recently that got that wrong, but I forget which and they may have changed terms since anyway.

Re: Pre-Existing Medical Conditions
I've never used them but for pre-existing conditions considered "declarable" https://www.bigcattravelinsurance.com (apparently) used to offer that you can still get cover either with those conditions excluded or for some conditions full cover can be provided at an increased premium.

They do offer Cycle Touring cover through an optional "Activity Pack".

I've never used them but did some years ago I got a quote from them and back then they were cheaper than the "mainstream" holiday insurers but not as good as Sports Cover Direct.

Many years ago I also used BMC who back then were competitive on policy pricing with a lot of options for "level" of activity (and cycle touring was minimal premium increase). But then something there changed and they became very expensive (even with BMC membership) plus they did require wearing a helmet (which I didn't do so I suppose technically ...".
