it was fresh, just make sure you keep one set of kit dry and you'll do fine. and a big sleeping bag helps. I had a snugpak which kept me really warm

I need to know what happened on Day 9?
Fatigue? Weather ? Mechanicals? Punctures ? All four maybe?

Nice pics, I prefer the ones without the atmospheric effects. There are even more dramatic.

Pretty much all of the above, I'll cover it all in the blog but a brake failure going into Paris was very eventful

Short but sweet and very enjoyable set of pics. I can empathise with many of your pictures having been though the same and its amazing how it strikes a chord....the food , the shower with all the kit in , the camping ...not sure about the the time of year though.^_^

Yes it was fine throughout my tour. I actually spoke to some locals this night who said it was safe around there, they even offered me a place for the night after I gave them vital information on their dogs wearabouts, I spotted him in the marshes on the way into town. He'd been missing for a week.
I met a solo female cycle tourer who was travelling down south and she had never had any trouble, so in my experience France is safe. Just take measure if you're by yourself. I set up a trip wire with a bottle on the end so atleast I would know if someone came close. Glad you like the site, another blog up tomorrow

Nice! I'm doing a similar route in September starting from Hendaye. I'm going to go slightly more north than you though, via Le Mans, Rouen so bypassing Paris.
