Next step - having to have a licence for a pair of shoes. After all, I use them to travel the public highway as often as I use my bike - and they should be identifiable for when I kick neighbours' dogs, cats, kids, windows, ... of and their cars too.
I think you have a bad idea there.

Nope. It's damage potential of the vehicle. Cars are capable of damage to people & property on a level of which a cycle can't get close to approaching. The use of the vehicle there for brings a significantly larger risk factor to the road so much tighter controls on the vehicle & the operators is needed. Even on that basis the licensing & registration system for cars barely works effectively.
So why do they still licence cars if it barely works anyway?

Exactly, just like cars? they can find the owner.
The police can only find out if they pull the driver over (even then it's not all clear cut), or if the registered keeper of the vehicle nominates someone when asked at a later date by the police.

For example, the below incident I had with a van. The registered keeper would not nominate the driver. Thus we do not know who was driving this vehicle, it could have been someone that was on a bail, had previously driven dangerously etc..

So why cctv them at all then?

To show what i experience on the roads. We can all just keep quiet about what happens out there, if we do, it won't get better.
Dont you hope to be able to identify a driver?

no it's more that this thread is in the cafe rather than commuting which would be a much more appropriate place for a serious discussion.
Its not commuting though. Why do you say that?
And you and others are being less than serious^_^
