Teddy's balance bike which Henry has borrowed? How would we transfer the registration?
You would have to fill out a bloody form which would take two weeks to update the system, I have Teddy gives you notice of when he wants to borrow Henrys bike.
Oh and Col would administrate the system as it was his clever idea.

If we had a reg that is attatched to our cross bar say, the bikes owner is more identifyable? Better than not having any chance of identifying at all do you think? Just a thought. but the cost wouldnt be great I wouldnt have thought.?
The owner is identifiable though. As i tried to point out to you before, number plates do not identify a driver, it identifies the vehicle.

Would Henry's toddle and balance bikes have to be registered? And what about Teddy's balance bike which Henry has borrowed? How would we transfer the registration?
You mean toys and learning aids? that are probably not on a thiefs list?

I just think getting us all into the system to possibly help and identify is a good thing. Why would it be bad?

Col - your idea is utterly bonkers.

Two words - SORN. And kids.

I've got my bike, tandem, and two "projects". Plus I've brought up 4 kids. They've been cycling since their feet could touch the floor - when do you suggest they start being licensed?

And the churn on their bikes is (in hindsight) terrifying; one son alone has at least 5 bikes in varying states of repair around my flat, my ex's house, and his own ----- and that's after the real **** has been chucked in a skip.

Bikes are already identifyable. By the frame number.
How many are registered to owners, yours and mine, what about ninjas and others who possibly dont even know where the number is? And how does that help id you if seen acting badly on the road?

Next step - having to have a licence for a pair of shoes. After all, I use them to travel the public highway as often as I use my bike - and they should be identifiable for when I kick neighbours' dogs, cats, kids, windows, ... of and their cars too.

Would a small number on the crossbar be that much more easiliy read?

I dont pretend to know all the answers, but I do think its a good idea to be identifyable in some way.
