If you can do 60 miles then you can do 100 miles, I stop every now and then for some food.
Just ensure you keep hydrated and eat.

I keep thinking of going for the 100 miles but always decide at 60 - 65 that ive had enough . I'd never thought of stopping for a break for half an hour , kind of seems wrong to me but I guess its not a race .
Last time I stopped on a long ride I just got cold and it took ages to get warmed up again . All I wanted to do was go home . This was over the winter though so I had that against me .
Find someone to do it with, much nicer with a friend

I'm doing 107 miles with 10,000ft of climbing on Saturday, I'm scared.........very scared

I've done 80 with 7,500ft but did have to stop a few times to get it complete

:hyper:just do it

have you thought of doing the first one on a sportive or charity ride? That way you get a signposted route, waterstops with nice things to eat and a lift back to the start if you can't do it... And people to talk to.

Action Medical Research do one called the Suffolk Sunrise. It's coming up soon and its a good one to do first as its pretty much flat, so you only have to worry about distance. IIRC its either sportive price of £50 or pay £25 with minimum sponsorship target if £25.

I felt better after the ride than I thought I would, I paced myself and didn't go hard on any part of the ride, just kept spinning, I went through stages of feeling weak and tired but would all of a sudden had a boost again, bananas flap jacks and a couple of gels probably helped there

I'm doing the tour of Pembroke sportif on Saturday which is 107 miles, I'm a little worries I won't manage it but will so my best

I did my first hundred last year solo without stopping or any intake of food en-route. I had planned a cafe stop at 60 miles but was feeling good and didn't want to break my momentum. Of course at 75 miles I was regretting my decision as last quarter was painful. Whether this was due to lack of food or entering unknown territory or a combination I don't know.

Did an 85 miler recently without breakfast or and food enroute and felt OK. Maintained a good pace as well IIRC.

Perhaps some worry unnecessarily about how much food they need, particularly on relatively short 2 hr leisure rides.

The trick is to stop somewhere to stock up on calories, but not for too long. 30-40 minutes maximum. That amount of time gives your legs a little recovery time. Any longer then your body and mind starts getting too comfy, evil thoughts like home and train start creeping in.

I love hills like that! I'd be carefully avoiding the loose stones riding up the first one, though, as it looks bloody steep.
That goes to a hillside hamlet called Horsehold. The road continues to ascend for about another 1 km beyond the few farm buildings, but then splits into 3 tracks more suited to a mountain bike. I think I did tackle the climb on my road bike about 20 years ago but have only done it on the MTB since. It is to be taken seriously as a descent!

I might have another go on a road bike, but I would use my Basso rather than my higher-geared Cannondale. If I do, I will get someone to make a video of it and stick it on YouTube.

Getting back on topic ... I haven't done a century ride for 2 years. I have done a few lumpy metric centuries and a tough 77-miler last weekend. I think I will be ready for one soon so I should do one before the end of the summer.

I definitely would not advise doing a century without eating and drinking plenty unless you were extremely fit and knew what you were doing. I found that my need for food and drink decreased by about 50% on long rides when I got fit, but it did not disappear altogether!

I couldn't contemplate a 100 miles without stopping. But the comments here seem right to me, we stopped long enough to get coffee and sugars down and to top up the water bottles. But no so long that we started to stiffen up. Easy to get going again and then you just keep moving. Anyone who can do 60 or so can manage the 100 with a bit of planning. Choose your route to suit your ability. Cheers
