Cycling and air pollution

A link to the dreaded Daily Mail, gives and interesting article on air pollution and various modes of transport.
Cycling comes out of the test well. And face masks make very little difference.
But we all knew that didnt we!

Last research I saw showed face masks to increase deep penetration of particulates into the lungs.

Not to mention they must have a suffocating effect especially if going uphill with little wind.
