Cycling in Majorca/Mallorca

Hi, I have a week holiday at the end of March and looking for possible options to combine cycling with a relaxing holiday in a not so cold country. A friend suggested going to Majorca. I have read forum posts here and many other information on the web. Those information are mainly for true cyclists. I do not consider myself as one of them. I have always enjoyed easy cycling, gone on a week tour to Holland last year (with invaluable info from forums here) and a proud owner of Triban 3. So you get the picture.
So I am looking for easy relaxing rides avoiding too many hills etc. I learned that central, south and east of Majorca provides such a terrain but there is very little information on routes etc. What I would like to do, as I did in Holland, is to rent a bike close to airport, ride from hotel to hotel, about 60Km a day, carry my small ruck sack with me, just like I go to work in my Triban 3. I have a small budget (about £500) so can not spend crazy amount for a guided tour. Am I just crazy or is it something that I can do? I did exactly this in Holland and had a great time.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Head East out of Palma onto the coast road and you can circumnavigate half the Island up to Puerto Pollensa on relatively quiet and peaceful roads. The West is very mountainous so you can work your way back down to the airport via the middle of the Island. Traffic around Palma always strikes me as a bit frantic at all times of the year, so you could choose to get transport from the airport up to somewhere like Cala Milor and do a loop from there.

I havent cycled there myself but am looking at flying over, getting a resorthoppa minibus up to the North and hiring a bike for a week. Bike hire seems quite reasonable.

Me and my wife have cycled around Mallorca 3 times taking our own bikes. The cheapest way is to book hotels before you leave as some of the agencies do some fantastic deals. Get a map of the island and plan your riding by booking hotels in resorts you are heading for. Most hotels are cycling friendly and accomodate bikes either in secure lockups or in your bedroom.

Here is some information I put together regarding cycling in Mallorca. http://www.by-bike.co.uk/mallorca.htm If you do take your own bike and cycle out of the airport read the last section as it will make leaving much easier.

If I was going for a week, looking for fairly easy routes, I would head to the north for a few days first, rather than changing hotel every day. You could get the train from Palma to Sa Pobla (costs about 3 EUR and you can take bikes on), and stay in somewhere like Puerto Pollensa / Alcudia for 2/3 days. From there you could do some nice circular routes (to places like Campanet, or even Cap de Formentor if you don't mind some small hills).

After that you could work you way around the coast to the east: there is lots of cheap accommodation in Cala Ratjada, Port Cristo, Cala d'Or and several other places all the way back to Arenal / Playa de Palma (although some of those towns might be a bit dead in March). It's not so easy to find cheap accommodation inland, as not many tourists visit these areas. I would also look to generally stay close to the coast, as, in my opinion, the routes are more interesting and scenic there.

A query for the OP, have you had any experience of cycle hire in mallorca?

I am heading there with the family in may and am assuming/hoping there will be plenty of cycle hire places around, I'm staying in playa del muro.

I usually ride a road bike and was planning to take helmet shoes and pedals with me.
