Anyway, - what is the rule / law if you push a bike along a public right of way that forbids cycling in England ? a few years back I was was pushing my bike along a path ( i really was pushing it, its a road bike and the path wasn't ridable) and this toffy nosed halfwit started telling me orf for having the bike with me - I probably let the cycling community down a bit when I asked him if he wanted his shot gun shoved up his jacksie, he just stood their saying "I beg your pardon" I took that as I could carry on.
You really don't want to ask. We have only just emerged from a particularly heated discussion about pushing a bike through a red light. Many people here feel that if you are on foot you are a pedestrian and the fact that you're pushing a bike is irrelevant. But that's clearly not correct. IIRC you are entitled to use a footpath for walking plus normal accompaniments of walking. So, again IIRC, pushing a pushchair is felt to be OK but pushing a bike is more marginal.

So, there's a short tarmac path that goes from the junction of St Johns Park and Vanbrugh Terrace to the five way junction by the bandstand (Maze Rd, Charlton Way & Prince Charles Rd). The 'London Cycle Network' goes along St Johns Park and is signposted down Vanbrugh Park rather than along this path. It crosses the heath rather than going next to a road.

Legal to cycle along?
I admit, I don't, I take Vanbrugh Park to Charlton Way (the other two sides of the triangle) because I'm uncertain and it puts you in a better position to turn right on to Maze Hill but an awful lot do and I'm trying to work out how annoyed at them I'm allowed to be when I'm walking along it. It's a relatively narrow path but thankfully most cycles take it at a reasonable pace, although giving way to pedestrians is sometimes low on their list...
