Every morning a guy rides his Brompton onto Keighley station platform and along the platform. In the evening he reverses the process.

I think this is dangerous inconsiderate and selfish.

What does anyone else think?

Yes, it's a bit silly to ride a bike on a train station, but;

Are there a thousand people around, or two?
Is the platform 30 ft wide, or 6?
Is he riding at walking speed, or 10mph?

If he's not getting told off, the station is either close to empty, or he's being ultra considerate. if it bothers you, say something to him, or the train station attendant.

Other than that, wait for the internet to give you 100 opinions, none of them truly linked to the actual situation, all of them linked to your opening paragraph.

agree with the others.
If the platform is busy, then yes it's a problem.
If it's not busy, and he's not cycling in a dangerous manner then it's not a problem.

Here for rides.
context is everything in such cases.

but he is probably breaking several by-laws not to mention a whole raft of entirely imagined jobs-worth railwayman rules of which my favourite has to be "put that ruddy red light out! what if a train driver mistakes it for a tail lamp or a signal?" to which my usual retort is "they'd need their eyes tested."

I've had that before while the station car park next to the track further down was full of red tail and brake lights of departing passengers' cars. The Fat Controller did not see the irony of the situation though.

That's the KWVR station. You would be asked nicely but firmly not to cycle on that platform by all the keen volunteer railway people. I'm on about the national rail station across the tracks which is pretty busy at rush hours....trains and people!

I think it is dangerous, inconsiderate, selfish, silly and instead of having a word you should hit him over the head with a large inflatable mallet that squeaks and make sure that everyone on the train, the platform, the ticket office and the coffee shop witness it to show him the error of his ways.

But I am Insanely jealous and mad as hell as I am unable to commute to work by bike and am taking my frustrations out vicariously.

Have a polite quiet word with him by all means if the platform is busy and it is dangerous but bear in mind you will probably only get a mouthful of abuse if you are lucky or donk on your head with a real mallet in return if you are unlucky.

Is it worth it?
