is it best to go a size up for your shoes , I normally buy the correct size but then they get tight in the winter . And tight shoes can make your feet feel colder , opinions please .

Depends on the shoe/brand

If worried about cold feet get winter boots or at the very least shoes with few cents

Try some on at your local bike shops

My shoes get tighter in the summer as they swell when hot. More so than the difference with thicker socks

Reason in winter my socks are a lot thicker so my shoes feel tight, this in turn reduces circulation so your feet feel colder, I just wondered what you all did. As for winter boots I have had several pairs , and they never actually do what it says on the tin .

Lots of cycling shoes tend to size up on the small side. I usually end up with 1 size up i.e 42 where my normal shoes are usually a 41.
Same here, I'm a full size up in my North Wave shoes. Shoe sizing, in fact sizing in general for cycling kit is something of a lottery. It's why I love Wiggle's returns system. Order 3 sizes, try 'em, send 2 back.

I tend to like shoes a little on the roomy side. For winter they'll take thicker socks, and in summer with thin socks I just tighten the straps a little more.

Shimano shoes come up at least one size smaller .
Not mine. I know the OP just wants to know what everyone does, but I wear the same shoes and socks summer or winter. I do have a couple of different pairs of over shoes, but only for the worst of the weather.

A lot of cycling shoes come up small or narrow so best to try on first especially if you have wide feet , If shoes are made abroad they are then converted to the nearest UK size not the actual size , in the case of Shimano have a look at this size chart and note the same sizes for different euro sizes .
