Sounds a bit dramatic but...... I have not been on here since November, (my new job has kept me mad busy). I started commuting on my bike on December the 1st, Unfit, injury ridden and blood pressure high. Just the week before on a visit to my G.P who informed me that I was close to medication for high blood pressure and that I needed to lose weight.I had also been suffering from an old squash injury which I had not managed to shift for 3 years.

Now - Feeling great, gut is going, squash injury -gone!!

You'll have to change your username soon... much like BigFatTallBloke when he was no longer either Big or Fat (I'm assuming he's still a tall bloke though)!!

Well done, keep up the good work.. and welcome to the mad house.

Well Done!

Did you need the meds for the high blood pressure?

 Good work!

I actually did go on BP tablets for a while, despite being quite active (judo). However, since I've started cycling 5 days a week, I have managed to come off them (on doctors advice). Regular exercise can work wonders!;)

LOL! Unfortunately in my case it is probably genetic. My father died of a heart attack when I was young, he was 51 (he was not particularly over weight, although he did smoke the odd cigar). So I've got to do what I can to overcome the bad genes.

Actually thinking about it, I probably do have some type A characteristics. If I had the money and the time, (and a wife who would let me!), I'd be happy throwing myself out of planes..... with a parachute of course!

I find that lycra is the only thing that stretches enough for me to fit on the bike

On a more sober note cycling helped save my life as it showed up a problem that led to a cancer diagnosis - 2 years all clear now - could have been a lot worse.

I am definitely fitter than when I started last June, my dad told me about a neighbour he used to have when he was younger, the guy was a smoker, overweight, boozer and diagnosed with Angina at about the same time as my grandad was.

This bloke gave up the fags, the booze and sold his car, went everywhere by bike and on going back to the doctors his Angina had gone, he was signed off as being fit for his age and kept on cycling.

Now I dont know how accurate that is but the general idea seems sound, he changed his lifestyle so much he steemed the onset of what is a pretty nasty condition so much by cycling that he effectively got rid of it.

I need to improve other aspects of my lifestyle, eat better and drink less and get rid of the spare poundage.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm absolutely loving being back on a bike. I used to MTB race in my early twenties and just stopped. Forgot how great it is to be on two wheels.

It's going to be a permanent thing because I sold my car.

Looking forward to my next user name - Quite chunky in lycra!!!

Oh- in 7 weeks of cycling - I've nearly been killed twice. Ho-hum.
