Currently on holiday in New Zealand. Came across this good news story in the local paper.

It was certainly very fortunate that the riders and other people around him when he collapsed had some knowledge and experience to know what treatment he needed. I hope he has a full recovery and can still ride his bike in the future.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read it that they kept everything going "manually" (CPR & compressions) then the paramedics restarted it with a defib?

A defib does not restart a 'stopped heart'. It provides a shock to move the heart muscle from fibrillation (which is basically trembling) into asystole (the 'flat line' state) where it can then restart to a normal beat.

That was my understanding of it
