Well it was certainly the coldest commute of the season this morning... Winter base layer on for the first time, and the extra warm gloves too.
I was super careful on the damp, slippy lanes, ensuring that I took all corners carefully, and managed to arrive at work without the slightest incident...
... until I locked up the bike, took two steps towards the hospital building to go and get my shower, did a brief, but very accurate impression of Bambi on ice on the frosty paving slab, and the next thing I knew I was down on my arse. This was a source of great amusement to a bunch of nurses turning up for work, and also to one of the porters pushing a trolley behind me.
I suppose it's just a good job that it wasn't an elderly patient, otherwise it might have been a lot more serious than a bruised hand/wrist and a damaged ego!
The bloody NHS eh? We can pay a security guy to sit in his van in the car park playing with his iPad or taking a nap while he pretends to marshall staff parking in the patient car park, but we can't get anyone to salt the pathways on frosty mornings!
