Not knowing the facts...... but that front wheel is not damaged from a simple fall, no matter how many bags

Yes. There's obviously more to this than has been reported.
I've fell off many times and never suffered wheel damage like that.
Perhaps he fell off then got hit by a hit and run. Who knows.
I do wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Or perhaps he got one of the bags stuck in his spokes, of course.

It's a steep b*gger, I know it from riding a fully-laden touring bike up there. If he was descending at speed (which is very easy to do there), then loose bags could be a serious hazard. Either way, not good!!

I see he's now died, so the best witness will never be able to tell us what happened.

What a shame. I hope if somebody did hit him they feel guilty enough to come forward. That being said though some fella near me got hit on a dual carriage way while walking at night - he died, they never found who did it.

Hope he recovers! The bit where he came of is bloody seep with a tight right hander! Usually taken at 45mph + on a roadbike - wouldn't fancy it myself with all that exra luggage!
