I dont know if I'm the only one to have noticed but sometimes the police dont switch on their sirens early enough when heading towards junctions and cross roads.

I have read of the force there taking dangerous risks before and its even mentioned in the news article. I suppose its a risk thats often taken because the possible outcome could be a lot worse.

I hope the guy recovers, doesnt look promising though.

I had a 5 series BMW police car coming straight at me in Shirley on Wednesday on the wrong side of the road. I think they get the 'blue mist' sometimes.

I had a police car run into the back of my car many years ago while I was sat waiting at a junction, he then tried to blame me, another police car then arrived and he tried to claim he saw it all and it was my fault, I took a solictor etc.. to court and the case lasted three days, my barrister tied them up plus we presented real witnesses, on that occasion I won but I have never trusted the police since.

There is not enough info in there for me to pass comment other than to say that I feel for ALL those involved.

On a slightly different note I was on public order patrol last night in a van. We answered two 999 calls that meant speeding across the city on blues and twos. The increase in speed will raise the risk to all involved. Both turned out to be hoax calls.

A horrible accident and the injuries sound terrible, I hope he can make a good recovery and get back to normal life, even if it does mean no Rugby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think people that make assumptions about this ought to keep their opinions to themselves until the investigation is complete. Unless they have driven an emergency vehicle at speed on blues and twos through a built up area, then they MIGHT know what's involved.

I saw a cyclist run a red light yesterday, ride onto a pavement and a few old dears had to get of of the way. I've never trusted cyclists since.

I'm not defending the abhorent actions of the police involved in your incident, but I am defending the thousands of police officers whose good name is sullied by the PATHETIC actions of the FEW.

I imagine not hitting people on bikes is part of 'what's involved'.

Hope the guy gets well soon and I guess we can be grateful that he is still alive.

Any form of injury to an innocent party is unfortunate, however it is a risk that is always taken when an emergency services driver responds to a call on blue lights. There is never going to be an answer to the problem as these calls are responded too by "Human Beings". Despite the training given, there will always be the possibility of human error.
There are only two possible choices.
1. Carry on as we are!
2. Ban all Blue light runs!

Something I think is missing is part of the obligation that an emergency vehical is under when running with flashers on.

They are obligated to drive safely for the road conditions, and take nessisary precautions to avoid accidents.

Part of the problem is the better sound insulation in cars these days, so you can't hear them when they are coming combinded unawareness of what to do. I've seen drivers accelerate accross lights on red to "get out of the way" when there's space to pull to the side.

Did the cyclist admit he was wrong or did he conspire with three work colleagues to pervert the course of justice in a court of law by perjuring themselves? Despite the fact that they were supposed to be the people who uphold the law.

Context, context.
