now i love the way it says:
"Police said the attack on the cyclist may have been deliberate"
becuase i guess fruit just flies around at will

and also:
"This may not seem too serious an incident.... This may have been unintentional"
yes of course, because its ok to throw things at cyclists, its good sport

Assuming the Orange was thrown from the passenger window unless the driver wound down his window and threw the orange over his head which then flew over the car into the cyclist.
Either way it was deliberate - You don't accidentally drop an orange from a moving car - Well not at a height high enough to hit someone in the face.

Actually, I think the reporting was attempting to make clear that something which might sound silly to some can actually be quite serious.

Being hit by a piece of fruit almost sounds like something from Monty Python. Sure, we all know what its like being on a bike, but most people would think it all a bit daft.

I've had an egg thrown at me, good shot, hit me on the arm from the other side of the road. Didn't break so was either hard boiled or...er....yeah... hurt like a stone though. not good.

There was a spate of egg-throwing incidents round here last year. Those eggs did break. It's annoying enough to get covered in raw egg, but just imagine what damage an egg thrown from a car doing 40 mph could do if it got you in the eyes...

I've been pretty lucky so far, touch wood, I've had a couple of eggs thrown at me but they've all missed. Ive had a firework shot at me too but it was easy to avoid.
