The cyclist's injuries are said to be not life threatening which is good news and a bit of a miracle when you see the car. The damage is presumably from hitting the fence and bouncing around on the rough ground and maybe gravity gave it an extra push but that car looks quite thoroughly wrecked.

First time I've read a comments section at the end of an article where they didn't blame the cyclist, albeit there is only one comment.

It's an electric car too. Must have crept up silently on the poor cyclist.

Itd be interesting to read the airbag modules and see what the speed was when they deployed. In the event of a serious injury or death they will do that.
Driver has 'minor hand injuries', cyclist has 'non-life threatening facial injuries'.

This is the crash site. In the bottom of a dip.

The fence posts are very sturdy metal posts.

3 maybe 4 are missing and there are no skid marks on the road surface, suggesting the car left the road and hit the posts without warning or time to brake and that the damage was done by hitting the fence posts not the tree

It looks like the cars crumple zone did its job and the car might well have been doing 20mph
