Cyclist killed by Moped rider in bike lane

Last winter, whilst reporting a stolen moped dumped on the B2B railway path, a Deliveroo moped rider with hazard lights on casually sped past me. Orange flashing lights magically make riding mopeds on cyclepaths legal....in his mind. Mopeds are by light years, the worse offenders for barging into ASL's.

You are not wrong. They are a complete and utter menace here in London.
I use a ped/shared cycle path twice daily. It's a cut through so mopeds used it also. The council put in swerve barriers. Doesn't stop them though.

Bristol is cursed with a neverending hire escooter 'trial'. The scheme is massively abused, two per scooter, ride the wrong way in one way streets/painted cycle lanes, jump red lights, often see kids playing on them since irresponsible parents hire them. when they're finished with, they get dumped, usually on pavements, cyclepaths..... Apart from the moped on the railway path, often get them following me along cycle lanes including the mandatory ones. I like to then stop just before the ASL blocking them

Sweet FA will get done the shower in charge and the others also are a bag of crap.A street in Leeds is going through a makeover alteration no idea what it is,but it is one way always has been,now it's single lane one way,guess what delivery riders riding on the pavements the wrong way,coppers anywhere no.

We have the same problem here in the States, these new EV "motor scooters" are NOT allowed to be on bike lanes or paths, but the cops are not doing a damn thing about it. We have had people killed in the States too with these "people" riding at 35 to 45 mph and not only that they don't stay in their lane presenting more of a hazard to cyclists and pedestrians. Our community has a $2,500 fine as well as the scooter is taken away and they can never get it back, but the consequences don't mean anything if the cops don't patrol the lanes and paths, which they don't where I live.

Even pedal assist bikes can be easily hacked to get above the 20mph legal limit and run at 35mph, and if they can hack those they can more than likely hack an EV motor scooter to exceed their legal speed limit.

I guess more people need to die before enforcement is implemented. Cyclists have always been nothing more than roadkill to the enforcement agencies.

What planet are the council on if they still think any barrier that doesn't block some bikes or trikes will stop a moped? If the council was serious about stopping it, they'd put up a camera with number plate reader and issue some fines or pass tinedm to the police.
