RIP
Both drivers have now been bailed. One comment on the Echo forums suggests that someone saw the crash and talked to the Police

However the person in question hasnt been that favourable to cycling on related stories so might not be as honest as you'd hope/expect: http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/9545568.Call_to_make_cycling_safer/ (5.03 comment by SaintM)

That road is right next to where i live. Very fast road. Main route into city centre. I've never cycled along it myself.
I agree the road is very dangerous, especially if riding on the other side of the road from the police station to where that crash happened.
Incidentally, the opposite side does have a cycle path 'of sorts'. The problem is, it's not correctly marked as a cycle path and it would be easy to ride on the other side unaware that there's a large footpath opposite accessible via a road bridge at Millbrook station, or traffic lights at the co-operative.
I mean has this man really died because councils over the years can't be bothered to put up a few signs? I honestly think this might be the case.
Moreover, it's possible to cycle all the way from freemantle to the docks without using the main road as there's a side road along the docks. However, the side road is used by massive lorries and is probably the most potholed road I've ever come across. It's severly neglected, even the tiny bit of cycle path on it barely has any paint anymore...
RIP to the guy involved.
@Downfader, I think I have said it before, but having tried to stay calm and rational when commenting in the local rag and failing miserably, I commend you for your stirling and rational efforts Sir.

I go running on the cycle route along that road, and there are stickers on the lamp posts stating that it's part of the national cycle route. But the guy was from Wimbourne, so he had no clue of that cycle route into town, because, as you stated there is no decent signage.
I would never ever cycle down a road such as this even in my most confident days as a younger road biker. It's just too frikin dangerous for cyclists as has sadly been shown.
