I was quite shocked at the above. The lorry passes, then slows right down for some reason - the video doesn't reveal whether something blocked his path or if he was just being a nobber - so the cyclist decides to draw alongside and...well, watch the video.

This is over 3 years old. Are you looking for videos of cyclists looking for trouble?

Cyclist is a nobber. The beep was just a warning that the truck was passing, good job as it was a double length one. Cyclist had no reason to pass. Idiot, and he didn't have enough speed

Ha! No, Youtube recommended it to me. I think both the driver and the cyclists are culpable by the way. Another thing I noticed was the door zone cycle farcility.

I agree. I don't see any reason why the lorry had to slow down at the pinch point (before he passed there is nothing in front and as the cyclist pulls alongside there is nothing there, this doesn't mean someone didn't get out of their car etc..) and his acceleration away wasn't great, which kind of makes me think it was deliberate.

Again as the cyclist pulls alongside (not advisable) I would expect the lorry drive to just let him past rather than trying to have a stand off against the cyclist, he should be visible to the driver at that point. Both being a bit silly at potentially several points in the video.

What is the driver guilty off, the horn might have just been 'hello I'm here', it didn't sound too aggressive :-/
Being a prat? who knows.

There are two things I can see which could be viewed as something wrong. A. the slow down. Did he need to slow down to a near stop after passing the cyclist? It's impossible to say either way, knowing this road very well and how people use it, I doubt it given the footage we have of the road ahead before and after the hgv is in front. B. Playing chicken with the cyclist. I would bet that the driver could see the cyclist when the cyclist is next to / in front of the cab. Why keep accelerating? A good driver would just let them back in front and get on with driving safely.

I think the horn is a red hearing. Sounds like a " toot i'm coming past " considering it's a double trailer, I think that's nice.

Whether the driver was being a prat or not. The cyclist trying to overtake a lorry of that length was just plain idiotic.

Who knows what the toot was for....?

Regardless, was the road clear when the truck stopped? Seemed clear? Was the driver letting a ped (out of sight) across?

Would I try to pass a truck on a bike like that?

No.

Once the cyclist tried to get past the truck, regardless of any 'previous' carryings-on, it was the truck driver's responsibility to yield as the vehicle being overtaken.

As you say we don't know what the driver slowed for, so it's wrong to judge him negatively/convict him; doing so only makes your ride less enjoyable or even worse (the video is a good example). The horn is mot a red herring if thats what caused the cyclists to behave like a pr@t!

more than likely, as the cyclist has not done a shoulder check for at least 20 seconds, even when pulling out round the parked cars.

I would say the truck slowed to go through the narrowing in the road.. This is what you are taught to do in HGV lessons and will possibly fail your test if you don't.
The acceleration away was slow, true.... Its a feckin massive truck, of course it will be.. Very possible the cyclist was out of view of the truck and the driver was being cautious making it even slower.

Cyclist should have stayed behind. End of story.

A. the HGV doesn't need to slow that much
B. If you are taught to slow for such an obstacle, would it not be wise to not pass another vehicle just before it?
